Meriwether Lewis grave (1774-1809) - Natchez Trace Parkway, TN. For Lewis' services in leading the expedition, Jefferson appointed him Governor of the Louisiana Territory. But Lewis was a man of action, not suited for politics. He also suffered periods of depression. On his way to Washington, D.C. to settle various affairs, he stopped at an inn and shot himself during the night. His gravesite is at that location.
